Designed for individuals with a strong scientific background, this program encompasses advanced courses, laboratory work, and research projects to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of chemistry. Through an extensive curriculum that covers subjects such as organic chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and analytical techniques, students acquire a deep understanding of the key concepts and principles underpinning this scientific discipline. Additionally, they gain hands-on experience through laboratory experiments that develop their practical skills and enhance their problem-solving abilities. The M.Sc. in Chemistry equips graduates with the necessary tools to pursue various career paths in academia, industry, research institutions, or governmental organizations as chemists, researchers, educators, or consultants. This program not only prepares individuals to contribute to the advancement of chemical sciences but also empowers them to address complex challenges facing our society through innovative solutions driven by scientific knowledge.
Master’s Degree in Chemistry (M. Sc.) is a two years duration program. The total marks in theory and laboratory works in M. Sc. first part are 500. Similarly the total marks in theory, laboratory work and/or dissertation in M. Sc. second part are 500.
During second year session, students may choose an area of specialization in one of the three separate streams: Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry while in first year all students are in one general stream. The second year students may choose one of the following papers as elective subject: Spectroscopy, Nuclear Chemistry, Natural Product Chemistry and Food Chemistry.
In context of emerging new developments in Chemistry, the Department is doing homework in introducing more courses as electives in future.
